Metal Flat Gasket
A plain gasket which can be fabricated in any required configuration. With adequate bolting, The gasket is effective and economical, especially on flanges with concentric serrations. In addition to exceptional mechanical strength, other characteristics of Flat Metal Gasket include heat conductivity and excellent resistance to high pressures, high temperatures and chemical attack. If gasket is not finished machined, minimum width should be 50% more than the thickness of the metal. The only limitation on dimensions of the flat metal gasket is the width of metal sheet commercially available.
The machined styles, with reduced surface may be the only answer to high pressure,high-temperaturesituations or corrosive applications in flanges where available bolting forces are too light to accommodate the gasket.
Flat Metal Gaskets are recommended for use in valve bonnets, ammonia fittings, heat exchangers, hydraulic presses and tongue and groove flange joints.
Flat Metal Gaskets are relatively inexpensive to produce and deliver good sealing performance in a variety of applications over a wide temperature range. The machined styles, with reduced surface may be the only answer to highpressure, high-temperature situations or corrosive applications in flanges where available bolting forces are too light to accommodate the flat metal gasket.
